1. Project Background
Tanzania is experiencing rapid urbanization and industrialisation, driving an increased need for a reliable and substantial supply of natural gas to its urban centres. The national gas transmission pipeline transports gas at high pressure from the upstream gas fields to the distribution networks in urban centres, similar to upstream supply structures used in modular LNG plant and modular LNG systems.
However, the high pressure at which the gas is delivered to the city’s pipeline system requires it to first be reduced in pressure and have its flow measured for proper distribution to homes, businesses and industry, a process commonly integrated with industrial gas vaporization systems and LNG vaporization system solutions.
The client is a regional gas distribution operator in Tanzania, providing city gas supply to a major metropolitan area. The client needed to develop a capability to supply city gas while also ensuring accurate accounting and reporting for all gas trading activities.
To that end, the client developed a high-capacity City Gate Pressure Regulating & Metering Station designed as a modular gas processing unit capable of handling high flow rates and achieving precise pressure regulation and metering.
2. Operating Conditions and Technical Parameters
The city gate station receives gas from a high-pressure transmission pipeline and reduces it to medium pressure for urban distribution. This pressure reduction process is comparable to pressure reduction skids used in skid oil and gas and modular process equipment applications.
