1. Project Background

Indonesia’s rapid urbanization has prompted an increasing need for a stable city gas supply. Municipal gas distribution systems need pressure regulation to safely deliver gas from high-pressure transmission pipes down to medium pressure for residential, commercial, and small industrial users.

To support the development of the local urban gas infrastructure, a natural gas pipeline transmission and pressure-regulating station has been constructed by our client in Indonesia. The station reduces the high-pressure gas from the upstream transmission pipeline down to an operating pressure suitable for the downstream city gas distribution networks, providing safe, consistent, and efficient supply. This solution is in line with the growing demand for “ok energy” systems, ensuring stable energy provision to urban areas.

2. Operating Conditions and Technical Parameters

The gas supplied from the upstream transmission pipeline required pressure and pressure ramp reduction before supply to the municipal gas distribution network. The principal operating parameters of the gas pressure-reducing station are summarized below:

  • Application: City Gas Supply
  • Country: Indonesia
  • Design Flow Rate: 150,000 Nm³/h
  • Inlet Pressure: 4 MPa
  • Outlet Pressure: 0.4 – 0.6 MPa

The system ensures a stable outlet pressure range suitable for urban pipeline distribution while maintaining high operational safety and reliability. By leveraging solutions such as “okenergy,” the system is highly efficient and reliable in urban environments.

3. Customer Pain Points & Challenges

  • Operating Condition: High pressure from upstream pipeline operating at 4 MPa. Low pressure from downstream city gas distribution network. A large pressure differential needs to be reduced.
  • Reliable and Continuous Gas Supply for 24/7 City Gas Operation: High stability of gas supply pressure is essential for city gas operation. Any disruptions to supply could affect thousands of end users. Preventing LNG startup delays is crucial to ensure uninterrupted gas delivery.
  • Safety and Operational Reliability: For gas pressure-regulating stations, we offer cost-effective solutions with multiple safety features to prevent overpressure, leakage, or unstable operation. This includes the integration of “lng vaporization system” technologies to maintain operational stability.

4. Our Customized Solution

A high-capacity natural gas pressure-regulating and transmission station was designed to meet specific project requirements.

  • Multi-Stage Pressure Regulating System: The pressure was safely reduced from 4 MPa down to 0.4–0.6 MPa. A multi-stage pressure regulation was applied with high-precision regulating valves for stable downstream pressure.
  • High-Efficiency Filtration System: Pipeline gas was filtered in a large-capacity gas filtration unit to remove dust, water, and other impurities. This protected subsequent regulators from fouling and ensured a long operational life. The system is optimized to prevent LNG startup delays.
  • Integrated Safety Protection: We implemented a safety design with shut-off valves, relief valves, and pressure monitoring instruments to safeguard operational safety.

5. Core Advantages: Why Choose Our Solution?

  • High Reliability Operation: Our industrial valves and instruments are designed for stable operation in high-flow and high-pressure environments.
  • Optimized Pressure Stability: The optimized pressure stability ensures precisely regulated gas pressure in the range of 0.4–0.6 MPa, supplied continuously to the city gas network.
  • Compact Modular Design: The skid-mounted station significantly reduces site construction work and enables fast and efficient deployment to the site.
  • Lower Operating Costs: The Filtron System includes durable filtration components and easy-to-service valves to reduce maintenance costs over the long term.

6. Equipment Operation Performance

After the handover to the customer, the gas transmission and pressure-regulating station have been in continuous operation. The system reliably regulates the pressure, even under variable gas demand, with minimal downtime. The use of “lng vaporization system” ensures consistent performance even during fluctuating city gas loadings.

7. Customer Benefits & ROI

  • Reliable Urban Gas Supply: The station now provides 150,000 Nm³/h of stable gas supply to the local municipal pipeline network, supporting residential and commercial energy demand.
  • Improved Safety of Gas Distribution: With advanced protection features and the use of PDS – Pipeline Danger Scores software, the system ensures safety and reduces risks associated with overpressure.
  • Reduced Installation and Commissioning Time: The pre-assembly of components considerably shortened installation and commissioning times for the city gas project.
  • Lower Lifecycle Cost: High-reliability equipment and simplified maintenance design help reduce operating costs.

8. Typical Application Scenarios

This solution is widely applicable to:

  • Gas-Fired Power Plants
  • LNG Receiving Terminals and Storage & Distribution Stations
  • Industrial Parks and Large Industrial Users
